How the layout is built
This tool packs parts using the same guillotine-cut model as Boardcut: every placement is separated from the rest of the sheet by straight, full-length saw cuts, and every cut consumes one blade kerf. Parts are placed largest-area-first into the best-fitting leftover space (best short-side fit), and rotation is allowed unless a part is square.
Boardcut's iPhone app runs 24 restarts of this solver (different sort orders, split rules, and scoring) and keeps the best result, plus supports grain-direction locking, multiple material groups, and dimensional lumber. This free web version runs one high-quality pass for up to 10 parts.
Questions
Is this a true guillotine cut layout?
Yes — every part can be freed using only straight, edge-to-edge saw cuts, in the order shown by the dashed lines, which is what a table saw or panel saw needs.
What does "yield" mean here?
Total part area divided by the area of the stock actually used, as a percentage. It does not subtract reusable offcuts, so it's a conservative (lower) number than Boardcut's in-app waste metric, which credits offcuts large enough to reuse.
