Whetlog

Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 29, 2026 · Last updated: September 2, 2026

Local logbook data, limited anonymous usage data. Everything you record — blades, stones, sharpening sessions, notes, and photos — stays on your device and is never sent to us. Whetlog sends limited anonymous usage events to a server operated by the developer. There is no account, advertising, or third-party tracking.

Who we are

Whetlog (“the app”, “we”) is provided by Softgrove, an independent developer based in Japan. Contact: support@softgrove.app.

What data the app handles

You may record blades, whetstones, sharpening sessions, touch-ups, notes, optional photos, and related details such as dates, grit, duration, and ratings (“your log”). Your log is stored only locally on your device using Apple’s on-device SwiftData database. We never receive this data, and the app does not provide account sync or a cloud backup service.

No log content is sent. This includes blade and stone details, session notes, photos, and ratings.

Anonymous usage analytics

Whetlog sends events for app launches, saving a sharpening session, adding a stone or blade to your collection, Lifetime offer views, purchase-related actions (purchase start, completion, and failure with a fixed reason), restoring a purchase, and reaching an export limit as a non-premium user. Each event contains the app version, a timestamp, the event name, and, when applicable, a paywall trigger or product SKU.

These events do not include any identifier: there is no UUID, account ID, advertising identifier (IDFA), or device identifier (IDFV) generated, stored, or sent. Whetlog does not access IDFA or IDFV. The events cannot be linked back to a specific device or person; the developer can only see aggregate counts.

We use these events only to understand which features are used and where people stop in the app flow so we can improve Whetlog. We do not use them for advertising or tracking.

Export, sharing, and deletion

Purchases and payments

Whetlog offers an optional Lifetime unlock as a one-time purchase, sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information. Your purchase entitlement is verified on-device through Apple’s StoreKit framework.

Network connections

The logbook and sharpening-tracking features work fully offline. When a network is available, Whetlog may send the anonymous usage events described above to a server operated by the developer. Apple’s system frameworks also communicate with the App Store for purchases and purchase restoration.

Children

Whetlog is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Third parties

Whetlog has no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Anonymous usage events are sent only to the developer’s own server. We do not sell or provide these events to third parties, use them for advertising, or use them to track you across apps or websites.

Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
